Our CRAZY week.

Jackson hanging out with Julia.

wE HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT OF NEBULIZER TREATMENTS THE LAST FEW DAYS

The back of his legs and bum with pretty Flowers :)

His poor little fat hands.

Well it has been two months since the last time I posted sad I know, there are plenty of things I should put on here but I don't have time right now maybe later.

Anyway we have all had kind of bad colds, Jacksons always seems to go to his chest and I always think I have strep throat, anyway so on Monday we all went to the quick care to get my throught swabbed and then I decided to have the boys chests listened to just to make sure they were clear. Jacksons oxygen was a little low and he had some noise in his lungs not really too big of a deal, they did him a breathing treatment and his oxygen levels went up a little, then he started crying and said his belly was really hurting so Jake hurried to take him to the bathroom but on the way out the door he started throwing up, Jake was catching it because they have carpeted floors, anyway his little face was so yellow. It seemed weird because no one else I knew of had the flu but the doctor person (pa or whatever they are) said it had been going around. The next day he seemed better as far as the flu goes, then on Wednesday at preschool at the fire station (first field trip) he turned completely yellow again and we went to the bathroom but he couldn't throw up. Then he seemed to be pretty much better again the next day. The next day I decided to get him rechecked at his pediatrician just because the PA guy said to have his lungs rechecked, they sounded ok but he and Walter both had ear infections so they got put on medicine, I of course had to remind the doctor and sort of convince him that Jackson had had a reaction to a medicine anyway we got started on that Thursday night and then Friday when we picked him up from preschool he said his legs hurt and he had a rash all over his lower legs, we figured he had gotten into something like weeds or something although he had never had an allergic reaction to anything like that we didn't know what else it could be then we figured he must be having an allergic reaction to the medicine. We went to Kohls to gt Jake some clearance swim shorts and Jacksons legs were hurting so bad Jake was pushing him around in a wheelchair, I sort of thought he was just too tired and melting down. When we would go over any kind of bump of anything he would yell and cry, so we decided we better go to Quick care he couldn't walk so Jake had to carry him in wailing. The doctor (PA or whatever) agreed and said take him off the medicine put him on a new one and come to the emergency room if it gets way bad. The next morning his hands started getting huge and the spots were on his bum and there was bruising wherever the spots were and now they were about the size of a quarter. He couldn't even bend his little fingers. So we went back to quick care and that guy was much less thorough then the first sort of a dufuss he just said as long as he can breath he's fine. We kept giving him benadryl ever 4 hours and tried to keep him drinking and iced his hands and nothing would help. So while I was at the womens conference Jake had called the pediatricians office and the nurses were going to have the doctor on call call him back within an hour and if not they said to call back so Jake called back and when he got to talk to the doctor she said that by our description he was having a severe allergic reaction and to bring him to the hospital so at 9:30 at night Jake and Jackson went off to the hospital she said he would probably be there through Monday, but after he got there and she looked at him she said I think this is HSP which of course we had ever heard of, so they got him on oxygen and IV and I wasn't there sometime they X rayed his chest.

So here is what HSP: you can skip over this if it is boring.

"HSP affects the small arterial vessels in the skin, gastrointestinal tract and frequently the kidneys. HSP results in skin rash, most prominent over the buttocks and behind the lower extreme ties associated with joint inflammation (arthritis) and cramping pain in the abdomen.
SYMPTOMS
Purple bruised rash on legs, buttocks or elsewhere. This is caused by red blood cells that leak out of the damaged blood vessels. Painful swelling of the joints, mostly the ankles and knees, usually individual joints only last 1-3 days. Sometimes whole limbs will swell. The inflammation does not cause crippling arthritis. Mostly abdominal pain, but can include loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomit ting and occasional blood in stools, rarely patients develop an abnormal bowel folding . 50% of patients have kidney inflammation but less than 1 in 10 have permanent injury to the kidneys. Inflammation of blood vessels in the kidneys can cause blood or protein in the urine." It says approx 10 in 100,000 children get it every year.
Also it says nearly all patients have no long term problems but for now his little knees and ankles and hips really hurt, he will try to run and play and then hurt afterwards, the doctor said he will need lay around a lot the next month, she also said no more soccer he'll have to do it in the spring.
We have to go to the doctor every week for a month, every other week for a month and every month for a year, so we switched pediatricians to the one that saw him in the hospital, our current one I have been having to wait 2 hours to see him we aren't going to do that 20 times this year. he walks really stiff right now because obviously the joint swelling but I noticed today the bottom of his feet are bruised. Oh today he woke up with a swollen eye and ear, I guess he will keep getting new areas swollen and it last for a couple days and moves on weird.

I will have to leave a little more time everywhere we go because we have to walk slow which is sort of hard.

Poor little guy! Hang in there. Sounds like you have some good parental instincts and also it seems like switching doctors is for the best.
